CLP-41: SNOW 3G Cipher Core
The CLP-41f core implements the SNOW 3G stream cipher that forms the heart of the 3GPP confidentiality algorithm and integrity algorithms. The Release 7 standard is governed by a European Telecommunications Standards Institute (ETSI) document - SNOW 3G Algorithm Specification Version 1.1 and these algorithms are known as UEA2 (encryption) and UIA2 (integrity). Release 8 refers to these algorithms as 128-EEA1 and 128-EIA1. The differences between the two releases does not effect the hardware core. The CLP-41 implements a flow-through or in-line version of the core although the core can also be provided as a look-aside engine.
Key Features:
- SNOW 3G cipher for 3GPP
- Supports both the confidentiality (UEA2) and Integrity (UIA2) modes in Release 7
- Supports both the confidentiality (128-EEA1) and Integrity (128-EIA1) modes in Release 8
- Maximum clock frequency: 408 MHz in 90 nm
- 1.9 Gbps @ 200 MHz for 64 byte messages (UEA2 and 128-EEA1)
- 5.0 Gbps @ 200 MHz for 512 byte messages (UEA2 and 128-EEA1)
- Flow-through architecture
- Ingress and egress FIFO depth configurable at build time
- Key size - 128 bits
- 34K ASIC gates (supports both encryption and integrity modes)
- 16K ASIC gates confidentiality option (128-EEA1 and UEA2) also available
Applications:
- 3GPP - LTE and UMTS
