Standards Watch

Security is a constantly changing landscape with new standards under development, existing algorithms constantly under attack and higher performance solutions being explored. In Standard sWatch, Elliptic examines what is happening in a specific and topical subject and dives in deep. The goal is to inform and guide developers in the creation of new security designs.

The latest issue of Standards Watch digs into HDCP Rev 2.0 in depth. This new standard will require an upgrade to all HDMI interface used on HDTVs, PVRs and Blu-Ray playerss. There is no backward compatibility to previous versions of HDCP so a converter box will be required. Making matters worse for consumers, Silicon Image has recently unveiled LiquidHD which offers a competing standard to HDCP Rev 2.0. This puts in plan an unwelcome format war. Elliptic will issue a bulletin on LiquidHD when more details are available.

Here are all issues of StandardsWatch and the archive for your reading pleasure.
